Basic.Space’s invite-only, IRL-to-URL shopping experience first launched in 2025 as a place for the next generation of consumers and creatives to buy and sell directly. Following last year’s Los Angeles and New York debuts, the second Los Angeles edition opens Basic.Space's 2026 multi-city series with its most significant presentation to date.

At the center of the event is the Walker Guest House, Paul Rudolph's first independent commission and one of the defining works of American modernism, designed in 1952. Exhibited as a fully realized architectural system in the Pacific Design Center Plaza and offered for sale at $2 million, the Walker Guest House will feature its original interior furnishings and architectural plans. Surrounding it are the designers, artists, brands and tastemakers Basic.Space believes are defining what comes next.

“This edition of Basic.Space LA is defined by the theme Own The Future™, a curatorial framework that brings together the individuals shaping the future of design, art and fashion. With the Walker Guest House at the center, an iconic work that redefined architecture, Basic.Space LA offers our members the opportunity to discover and buy both heritage and contemporary pieces that define the culture of what’s next,” says Jesse Lee, Founder of Basic.Space and Chairman of Design Miami.

The Walker Guest House

Designed by American architect Paul Rudolph at 33, the Walker Guest House was the project that launched his ascent as one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. In 1957, Architectural Record readers voted it one of the most important houses of the century, alongside Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House and Philip Johnson's Glass House.

The house's most distinctive feature is its system of adjustable exterior wooden panels, raised and lowered by 77-pound, red-painted cannonball counterweights. When closed, they function as shutters; when opened, they form shaded canopies, allowing the structure to continuously transform in response to light, climate and use. Rudolph described the finished structure as something that "crouches like a spider in the sand," alive to its environment in a way few buildings ever achieve.

Commissioned by Walter Walker, a Harvard-trained physician and grandson of T.B. Walker, the Minnesota lumber baron who founded the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Guest House reflects a lineage of American patronage rooted in art, architecture and civic engagement.

Basic.Space LA 2026 Highlights
\u200bIn addition to the Walker Guest House, highlights include:

Glade Miami, Army Blanket (2020) by Rick Owens, presented by Carpenters Workshop Gallery. An expansive installation of ten Glade units and two corner units in Batipan plywood, covered in French wool army blankets, with integrated lighting, internet conduit, and phone charger

The Gallery, curated by PLATFORM. A presentation of pieces by more than 20 artists grounded in Los Angeles’ arts community, ranging from technically rigorous painting to expressive sculpture, such as Al Freeman and Devin Troy Strother

The Garage Shop by ERL. ERL unveils a new art installation, transforming a glass enclosure into a meticulously composed American garage.
